COMMITMENT

While assembling a new table I had just purchased, I realized I was using the time I had set aside to commune with God to arrange the table. The Holy Spirit gently reminded me, and I began to make excuses, stating that I didn't want to leave the table parts strewn across my living room floor, as it could be dangerous for people. I was also worried about where to keep the remaining table parts. I continued assembling the table, hoping to complete a significant portion.

I had promised my husband that I would assemble the table, and I was determined not to disappoint him. However, as I worked, I could not get my mind off that I was not prioritizing what mattered (my time with God). I explained to my husband that I couldn't finish assembling the table because I needed to pray before I slept that night, and he reassured me that it was okay.

Immediately, I decided to stop what I was doing. I got ideas of where to safely put away the remaining table parts till a more convenient time for me to finish up the coupling.
In those moments, I saw firsthand that things would only begin to work out when we take a step of faith. I did not know where to keep the table part until I took that step to leave assembling and clear the floor to commune with God. We never get instruction to the second step until we are willing and start taking steps towards obedience to God's first instructions.

I also recognized that I had been willing to keep my promise to my husband over my commitment to seek God. It's often easier to break promises we make to God because we don't see Him directly, unlike our promises to others.
Are you fulfilling your promises to God?
Are you sticking to the study plan you committed to God at the beginning of the year?
Are you praying at that time you've set aside for prayer?
Have you started taking action toward God's instruction to you this year?
